But in March 2004 that’s exactly what did not happen to this past student of St. Anthony’s who arrived from South East Asia and went past these same gates after 3 decades? for the College Sesquicentennial celebrations. Amid all the pageantry, pomp and glory of the 150 year celebrations this old Antonian discovered monumental evidence of the contributions made by his fellow Old Antonians and well wishers who had transformed his old school into a modern learning institute. Almost every thing he saw had changed and the revamped infrastructure still had the same gracious feeling of St Anthony’s he used to remember. He also found something extraordinary, which none of us took much notice of ? The ‘people’…, the 'faces' ....he captured the memories, names he knew a handful whilst others were beyond recognition…( matured I suppose ?) he walked away soon after the function instilled with a lifelong bearing to college only to find a way to connect them and that he did.... initiated the first e-mail to the names he knew, because his aim was to revive the link amongst his mates, to make up for the lost time and to be connected till the end of time.
Now one of those guys who received the above message who used to live in the precinct of St Anthony’s and now lives in Colombo added his magic potion to the discovery he wanted this dynamic LINK to grow and multiply and reach many more than a handful, so he collected the mail received from Viet Nam and distributed it right across the Universe and called it The Eaglenet
Here we are today in the World Wide Web tangled to a big NET. The network we all wanted to have since leaving college, we were lost... forgotten….scattered all over the globe and now we’ve been spotted on the internet. Now my dear fellow Antonians this is what Geoff & Sarath inspired all of us, if we are willing, the seed is planted for the global link, this is only the beginning, we have to nurture it, nourish it with our diverse thinking based on our different life experiences. The Antonian spirit has to move on, participation is the key….. Motivation is what we already have and since we are the birds of the same feather collectively this network will end up beyond our imagination………… And one day…….. ....it will…
